Pupil Leadership

At Lady Jane Grey Academy, we strongly believe in the power of pupil voice and the importance of involving children in the decision-making process within our school community. One way we promote this is through our House Captain elections, which take place every September. Our school is divided into four houses: Abbey, Bradgate, Bosworth, and Castle. Year 6 pupils have the opportunity to apply to become House or Vice Captain, taking on key leadership roles.

Those who wish to stand for election submit a letter of application and, if successful, campaign and deliver speeches to their housemates during a dedicated house assembly. All members of the house then vote, and the results are counted and announced. This process helps pupils gain a deeper understanding of democracy, responsibility, and active citizenship.

In the academic year 2024/2025, the elected House Captains and Vice Captains took on an important leadership project by conducting a whole-school food survey.
They independently designed the survey to discover which foods were most popular among pupils and to gather suggestions for potential additions to the school menu. After collecting and analysing the data, they confidently presented their findings during a whole-school assembly and formally submitted their proposals to the school caterers.

During the summer term, they took on another responsibility by using a £500 budget generously provided by the PTA to refresh the school garden. Working collaboratively in teams, they visited a local garden centre, carefully selecting a variety of plants and flowers to brighten the school grounds. This initiative not only enhanced their teamwork and budgeting skills but also made a meaningful impact on the school environment.
